Meet the Founder
My name is Hellen, and if you’re here, chances are you understand the unique journey we have been on. It’s a journey filled with love, worry, sleepless nights, and the constant vigilance that comes with raising a child with allergies.
Our story began when our youngest daughter, Nalah. She’s a bright, beautiful, and fearless girl, but from her earliest days, we knew something wasn’t quite right. The rashes, the discomfort, the endless confusion, it was all so overwhelming. Like many of you, I was met with reassurances that it was “just a rash” or “common in newborns.” But my gut told me something different.
Those early days were a blur of doctor’s appointments, desperate searches for answers, and the crushing feeling of being unheard. I remember the sleepless nights, the anxiety, and the sheer exhaustion of trying to figure out what was happening to my baby. There was one morning I will never forget, Nalah had blisters all over her body and we rushed to the GP only to be told we were over medicalising the situation and that we had wasted an emergency appointment. I felt so alone and insignificant. But I knew I had to keep fighting for Nalah.
We started keeping a food diary, meticulously tracking everything I ate (as I was breastfeeding) and every symptom Nalah experienced. It was a game-changer. Finally, we had data, evidence that something was truly going on. It was a small victory, but it gave us the control we so desperately needed.
Then came the day of Nalah’s first reaction at nursery. The call I received, the panic, the rush to the hospital. It’s a moment etched in my memory forever. Seeing her there, swollen and struggling, broke my heart. That day led us to allergy testing, and the confirmation that Nalah was allergic to dairy and fish. It was a mix of relief and fear. Relief that I wasn’t “mad,” that my instincts were right, but also fear of the unknown, the challenges ahead.
Raising a child with allergies has changed our entire family’s life. We learnt to read labels like detectives, to educate everyone who cares for Nalah, and to plan every outing with her safety in mind. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has taught us resilience, compassion, and the importance of community.
That’s why I created the Allergy Guardian App. The App helps you keep everyone who cares for your child on the same page, giving you peace of mind knowing their allergies are managed safely. It simplifies allergy management, allowing you to collaborate with caregivers to ensure your child’s safety and well-being.
I want to share tools that can enable better allergy care communication to make it easier for parents and caregivers to manage allergies together so that affected children can lead healthier and happier lives. Because I know what it’s like. I know the worry, the frustration, and the constant need to be vigilant. But I also know the joy of seeing your child thrive, the strength you find within yourself, and the incredible community of allergy parents who are always there to lift you up.
“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
We are walking this journey with you.
